I've decided to go for it. The 26.2 mile marathon in orange county has my name all over it and I've got a good amount of time to train. It starts in early May, 2018. That gives me a good 8 months to get into gear. I'm not going to do it alone this time. I've hired a personal trainer in orange county to get me into top shape before the competition.
Novice runners (a category I certainly fall into) often neglect to prepare properly for long races. I've been doing some research on the things every runner should carry with them. I found this list which has been very useful. A few things that I honestly wouldn't have thought to bring on my run...
Evidently chaffing is a huge issue for distance runners. When my Alluvit Trainer told me about some of his nipple chaffing stories I couldn't help but laugh for a good five minutes. I had no idea how serious it can be. I was only worried that my feet would blister or my stamina would let me down. Raw nipples never crossed my mind. I'm glad somebody prepared me but it still makes me laugh.
I'm starting my preparation this weekend with my first run. My trainer and I are going on a short 6 mile run (short is a relative term these days). I'm going to slowly build my way to running longer distances and I want to get started now. I know that the holidays will inevitably interfere with my training schedule so a head start seems in order. As always, I will keep you all posted on my progress. Feel free to join me and share your stories!
